Random thoughts

Made it to Amarillo Texas today.  Temp 84.    Best part of the day so far..Lunch...peanut buster parfait it was so good.  Some of you know that I can't have a thought pop into my head  without having  it pass over my lips.  I have decided it is time for me to stop doing this and carefully think before I speak...but not today.  We only drove for 4 hours today and actually got to a city before rush hour hit.  We are staying at the Ashcroft Inn, it has a beautiful lobby and the room is done in my fav color..purple. Free internet, free parking, king sized bed, smoking room complimentary breakfast, Indoor pool (to bad) and all this for $89.00.  We are staying here for the next 2 nights.   We bought a lotto ticket today for the draw on Friday, the prize is $47 million.  I f win we will fly home and leave our suitcases and the truck to the first homeless person we see lol.  There have been so many business' closed, so many homes boarded up and some towns look like ghost towns.  We must say that we have received awesome service every where we go and people have been so respectful.  I suppose they are glad to have jobs, we could learn from this in Canada.  People are so thrilled when they learn we are from Canada, people actually stop us to chat. We have not entered any public place that has a dirty washroom.  One of our fav spots to stop is called Loves. It has a gas station, great store and usually a fast food restaurant or 2.  I do find it a little unnerving when I see signs that say "no guns allowed".   While we were in TN and Mississippi we noticed how green and lush everything was, since we have hit Texas we see that it is very dry here, the grass along the highways is already looking burnt.  We also noticed that these 2 states have many, many, banks and churches.  And they are beautiful, some banks have shut down.  We have noticed that Texas is full of car lots.  The lexus is a common vehicle here.  At home research says that the lexus is the fav drive for seniors (sorry Kerry). When I am not driving or talking Terry's ear off I have been reading the book "Between shades of gray".  This book was intended for  young adults but it is a page turner, hard to read but also hard to put down.  It is a love story.  Based in Lithuania 1941, a story of survival. I bought the book yesterday and only read while on the road,  I am already on page 238.    The soil down in this part of Texas is red, not as red as P.E.I. but with the green trees and the shocking blue sky it made for a pretty drive today.  We saw signs posted today saying to watch out for rattlesnakes !!!! WTF....The last time I came upon a snake was when I was 12 or so.  My family had gone down to Boston Mass. to visit my fav Aunt Bess (who I was named after) and a garter snake slithered over my foot.  You would have thought it was a cobra...I froze on the spot..could not move.  I had just recently seen the movie "True Grit" with John Wayne, Glen Campbell (my first crush)  and Kim Darby.  I think it was Glen Campbell that had been bitten by a snake and she had to suck the venom out of his leg..no one looked like they would do that for me lol.  Funny the things you believe as a kid. When my family moved up to Grande Cache Alberta from Glace Bay Nova Scotia in 1969 we were told that there were "Indians" in Grande Cache.   The only thing I new about Indians was what I saw in the old western movies.  I expected to see them in full Indian dress, and I knew they liked blondes (I was a natural blond back then).....  I just knew I was going to be scalped.  Funny thing is my second crush was on a young native boy ..I was 10 he was a couple of years older, and oh so pretty to look at.   Well that is all about that.  I promise to start curbing my babbling mouth...maybe tomorrow.  Hope all is well at home

  1. I meant to say we are staying at the Ashmore inn, not what I said earlier.
