Made it to Memphis today.

our first assault of colors....
Well, thanks to internet service issues I have not been able to blog..but finally I can give an update of what we have seen so far. The scenery has been beautiful, the weather has been interesting. When we hit Wyoming we went to see the Devil's Tower. This is an amazing site and I wish I could post pictures or a link to their site, but I am just learning my way around my computer. The Devil's Tower National Monument comes with several theories. This is the one we read about. The tower rises 1267 feet above the surrounding terrain. According to Native American tribes 7 native girls went out to play and were spotted by several large bears. In an attempt to escape the bears the girls climbed on a rock, fell to their knees and prayed to the Great Spirit to save them. The Great Spirit made the rock rise from the ground towards the Heavens so the bears could not reach them. The bears in an effort to climb the rocks left deep claw marks in the sides which had become to steep to climb. Those are the marks that appear today on the sides of Devil's Tower. When the girls reached the sky they were turned into the 7 star constellation the "Pleiades". Only 1% of the annual visitors climb to the top.  Of course Terry and I wanted to climb to the top but we forgot our gear..lol.  We did do the 3 km hike around the basin..may not sound like much to you, but it was fairly steep.  As we were leaving 2 young couples were gearing up to climb.  Again we do have pic but haven't figured out how to get the pictures out of our camera and into the computer.  We then moved on to Mt Rushmore...what a monument ...very patriotic..amazing to think this work was done without modern platforms.  The Americans are very patriotic, large flags everywhere. We have to date been thru 7 states already. The highways are great, speed limits run up to 75 miles per hr.  I have done some of the driving, not half but at least 30% of the time.  Considering a year ago the most driving I did was from Long Lake to Edmonton, I can now handle 5 lanes of traffic going 75 mph.  The advantage to travelling at this time of the year is that things are fairly quiet, the downside is that a lot of attractions are not open.  We were going to to the 700 ft zipline at Mt Rushmore but it was not yet open for the season.  You zip down and then zip back..would have been fun.  We also wanted to explore the cave closet to Mt Rushmore but it also was not open.  We then thought we would take a tour of a working prison but changed our minds, I was afraid that Terry would get more cat calls than I would, bad enough I have to compete with other women.  We hit a small pub along the way (pop 631) and I asked for a ceasar...the women looked at me in a very stunned way (you would think I had asked her for a threesome).  They have no idea what clamato juice is.  Oh well we left after one beer, we felt awkward. The Americans are suffering, we saw many  closed businesses including banks. The Americans have been very friendly.  I must say that I think truckdrivers must make a good living here. The rigs they are driving are very pretty.   We spent Easter Sunday in Kansas city and were really looking forward to having some good BBQ but a lot of places were closed so we had to settle for steak and lobster., for $14.95....darn eh.  We pulled into Memphis a couple of hrs ago and will stay here for 2 days. The temp today is 80...wonderful.  Going to do a couple of tours, gotta see Graceland. Looking forward to good food.  Hope all is well at home
