Four Southern Ladies, a Bohunk and a Hillbilly

Today is Sunday.  Last Wednesday we reached Covington Texas to visit with Terry's new found friends. We were going to stay at the hotel in the area but were invited to stay with his new friend.  I wasn't exactly thrilled to impose ourselves or to take advantage of someones kind hospitality.  Besides, just because Terry liked them didn't mean that I would like them....and what if they didn't like me?  Needless to say, I was feeling fairly comfortable within about 15 min.     Now I am sure that in my past life I was a Southern Lady  (no comments please lol).  I know I have ripped the drapes off the wall and wrapped it around me like a dress at least once..( or was that at a Toga party?).  I have certainly worn a lampshade on my head a time or two...is that a Southern thing?  Let me tell you about our Southern Ladies.  First there is Miss Mimi,  she just lost her beloved husband of 31 yrs to that horrible cancer.  That is why Terry got to meet her in the first place.  She is tall and slim and as Terry told me "stunning".  She has the most beautiful hands with long fingers and is very graceful.  Although she has not been a world traveler, she is a very "worldly "  is that even a word, if it is I have most certainly spelled it wrong..insert hillbilly here.  She is kind, loving, compassionate, and laughs very easily. She made us wonderful Southern breakfasts each morning we were there.    Second is her beautiful daughter Cammy.  Miss Cammy is just way to good for her own good.  She is a single mother to two wonderful daughters.  They are her greatest joy and the loves of her  life.   Being a single mother is tough, but most especially here in the south.  She has a twinkle in her eye and always a smile on her face (we did manage to make her laugh a time or two).  Miss Cammy is an LPN.  While her Daddy was dying she moved into their home to help take care of him (she lives across the street so that was a blessing for her).  She and her mother were sleeping in the king sized bed with him and woke up just as he was about to take his final breath.  She must have been a pillar of strength for her family.  She has not had an easy life, but If I didn't know her background I would never have seen any signs of the struggles she has had.    Although she certainly does not need a man (like she needs someone else to take care of lol) my wish for Miss Cammy would be to find a man to take some of life's pressures off of her back...She is so full of good and has much love to give.   Cammy if you are reading this you have two new friends that pray  you will get what you deserve someday, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday.   Next  is Miss Cammy's number one daughter  Miss Emily.  If you read my previous post you will remember I talked a little bit about St. Jude's hospital.  When Miss Emily was 7 she was diagnosed with a horrible type of brain cancer.  Because of St. Jude's she is alive today.  Although she has many health issues still, her family considers her to be a blessing and a joy in their lives.  Although she has limitations I saw very few of them.  She is going to be 21 on June 17 (our 34 wedding anniversary).  The main man in her life was her Poppy (grandfather).  He had so much confidence in her and spent may hrs with her, he even taught her how to drive (much to the chagrin of her grandmother Miss Mimi).  By todays standards she would be considered more than cute.  She has a bubbly personality, beautiful eyes and is madly in love with her Mamma.  There is also a certain young man she has her eyes on.  Hopefully this young buck will be careful with her feelings.  Then there is Miss Cammy's  number  two daughter, Miss Zoe.    She is 10 yrs old going on 15.  She has a very exotic look about her, darker long brown hair and a little look of the devil in her eyes.  If I could scoop up a young girl to take home it would be her.  I loved when she called me Miss Liz for the first time and of course it was Mr. Terry by both of the girls.  She likes to read, ride her bike and plays baseball.  We went to watch her play and she got a couple of good pieces of that old ball.   When she grows up her dream is to work at St Jude's, and I have no doubt she will.  She also likes to tease her sister about the afore mentioned  young buck.  I amazed at the respect I see from these two young Southern girls.  Now I am a believer that everything happens for a reason, and people come into your life as you need them.  If this family had not lost their husband, father and poppy and had  Terry not just lost his dad our path's would never have crossed.  All of these people were dealing with very raw emotions and were brought together by one person, Terry's friend Chris.   This family put a stamp on Terry's heart and for that I am forever grateful.  thank you Johnny Cool for sharing your family with us.  I hope our paths will cross again.  Hope all is well at home.
